Ordained in 1988, Reverend James C. Vlaun is currently special counsel to Bishop Murphy for community relations and chaplain at his alma mater, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, West Islip, N.Y. Most recently, Father Vlaun served as interim spokesperson for Bishop Murphy.
Father Vlaun began his involvement with Telecare in1991 as host of “On Long Island.” For the last eight years, Father Vlaun has co-hosted the annual Telecare telethon with Monsignor Thomas J. Hartman. Currently, Father Vlaun is the host of Telecare’s “Good News with Father Jim” show. For the last 16 years, Father Vlaun has been hosting “Religion and Rock”, a nationally syndicated radio show (WBAB 102.3 FM Sundays at 7:00 a.m. or 95.3 on the East End of Long Island).
Father Vlaun is also the author of Life, Love and Laughter: The Spirituality of the Consciousness Examen and Feasts of Life: Recipes from Nana’s Wooden Spoon.
In addition to serving as chaplain and teaching communications for the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Father Vlaun coordinates the school’s student-run radio stations. Father Vlaun earned a master’s degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, N.Y. and a master’s degree in communications from NYIT. Father Vlaun earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and sociology from the Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston, N.Y.f
