West Islip, NY – Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center unveiled a well-deserved medical staff recognition wall to its administration, medical board, Board of Trustees, donors and special guests at a recent reception followed by a blessing and dedication.
The wall honors the long-standing commitment of Good Samaritan’s medical staff to the hospital and the communities it serves. Past medical board presidents, department chairs and doctors with honorary/emeritus status during the Medical Center’s 50-year history are prominently featured on the wall outside the hospital’s St. Vincent de Paul Hospital Chapel.
To celebrate and commemorate this milestone, a committee of representatives from the hospital’s administration, medical board, plant engineering andThe Foundation was formed. The committee’s vision was to establish a memorial that would appropriately reflect the names of those who have provided extraordinary leadership and compassionate healing. Members of the medical board created the selection criteria.
“The names you see on the wall represent a historical context for all of us. As we embark on the next 50 years of exceptional health care for the community, let us remember the value of health and healing, justice, integrity and respect for the dignity of each patient. We are honored to have had this opportunity to recognize Good Samaritan’s physicians for their many contributions,” stated former President of the Medical Staff at Good Samaritan William J. Engellenner, MD.
A number of doctors recognized were part of the hospital’s founding physicians and were present for the dedication. Two such physicians are still practicing 50 years later, Ray A. Haag, MD, orthopaedics and John A. Pallotta, MD, obstetrics/gynecology.
