West Islip, NY Ė Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is encouraging current and former patients to nominate a doctor who embodies certain qualities for the hospitalís Physician of the Quarter program.† The programís objective is to recognize affiliated physicians who have provided outstanding service and support to patients, as well as demonstrating compassion.
The most recent honoree, James Ferguson, MD, was nominated by one of his patients, Clifford Cody of the Eastern Farm Workers Association.† ďPart of a hospitalís duty to a community is what it does to help people stay healthy outside of the hospital and what is done to live up to the Hippocratic oath,Ē said Mr. Cody.† ďDr. Ferguson is a shining example of dedication and hard work toward both these goals.Ē
Dr. Ferguson has volunteered his time to assist and treat some of the lowest income workers on Long Island and helps to recruit specialists as volunteers to aid in any needed follow-up care.† Dr. Ferguson was presented with a plaque as winner of the hospitalís Physician of the Quarter program, while Clifford Cody and the Eastern Farm Workers Association, as nominators, received a check for $100.
Throughout the year, the hospital will continue to recognize affiliated physicians who have gone above and beyond to help their patients.† Good Samaritan is accepting letters of nomination (no longer than 300 words) from patients wishing to nominate their doctors.† Specific examples of how these physicians have exceeded their normal duties are requested.† The patient selected and his/her doctor will be invited to a special ceremony and have their story published in Good Samaritanís community newsletter, Good News From Good Sam, and on the hospitalís website.† Letters should be typed or printed legibly and contain the nominatorís name, address and phone number.†
For more information about the Physician of the Quarter program, please call (631) 376-4104.
