West Islip, NY Ė Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is encouraging current and former patients to nominate a doctor who embodies certain qualities for the hospitalís Physician of the Quarter program.† The programís objective is to recognize physicians who have provided outstanding service and support to patients, as well as demonstrating compassion.
The most recent honoree, John W. Acampa, MD, was nominated by his patient, Maria E. Semprini-DeMartino of Hauppauge, for† ďoffering words of encouragement, a good laugh and a listening ear.Ē† Dr. Acampa has cared for Semprini-DeMartino and her family for more than 20 years, as they have battled osteogenesis imperfecta, a bone disease.† Semprini-DeMartino said, ďI truly owe my life and well-being to this wonderful man.Ē† Dr. Acampa was presented with a plaque in acknowledgement of his being named Good Samaritanís Physician of the Quarter, while Semprini-DeMartino, as the nominator, received a check for $100.
Throughout the year, the hospital will continue to recognize physicians who have gone above and beyond to help their patients.† Good Samaritan will be accepting letters of nominations (no longer than 300 words) from patients wishing to nominate their doctors.† Specific examples of how these physicians have exceeded their normal duties are requested.† The patient selected and his/her doctor will be invited to a special ceremony and have their story displayed in Good Samaritanís Community Newsletter, Good News From Good Sam, and on the hospitalís website.† Letters should be typed or printed legibly and contain the nominatorís name, address and phone number.†
