West Islip, NY – Donna Asaro, RN, of Good Samaritan Nursing Home, was recently honored with the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) Employee of Distinction Award. Asaro has been with Good Samaritan Nursing Home, a 100-bed facility in Sayville, since 2002. Over the years, she has significantly improved the quality of life for many of the nursing home residents, including her own father’s, whose care she entrusted to Good Samaritan in his last year of life.
“One example of Donna’s creativity and sensitivity to the residents’ needs was her implementing a fund raiser to pay for their daily newspapers for a year. She has the compassion to listen and respond, providing solutions to improve the quality of care,” stated Good Samaritan Nursing Home Administrator Teriann Cronin.
Good Samaritan Nursing Home provides the highest level of specialized and individualized medical and nursing care for the adult and geriatric population. It is a hospital-based nursing facility licensed by the New York state Department of Health and accredited by the Joint Commission, offering the full resources of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.
The Employee of Distinction Award was created to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of staff working in NYAHSA member organizations. The selection committee consisted of representatives from the legislature, the Office for the Aging and other long-term care associations.
Residing in Sayville with her husband and three children, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to her community.
