Rockville Centre, NY: Nancy Stith, director of rehabilitation, social work and pastoral care for Catholic Home Care, a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS), was a finalist for the 2011 Patrick J. Scollard Award for Leadership from CHS.  This annual award recognizes exemplary leadership and extraordinary commitment to the mission of the CHS health system and the communities it serves.  Stith and fellow finalist Robert Berger, pharmacy director at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, were honored along with Beth Hammerman, director of planning and community health at Mercy Medical Center, the winner of the award.

Nancy StithStith joined Catholic Home Care in 1997 and among her mny accomplishments is credited with the development of a model for care that advances the role of physical therapy in the home setting.  She successfully initiated the Balance Approach Program, dedicated to ensure patient safety by evaluating whether balance is impaired, preventing falls and promoting safe, independent living for patients.  Most recently, she presented a lecture series on falls prevention throughout Suffolk libraries.  Her previous awards included the 2011 Excellence in Home Care Award from the American Physical Therapy Association and the LIHN Shining Star Award.

In addition to leading more than 145 physical, occupational and speech therapists, 16 social workers and a pastoral care staff, Stith finds the time to volunteer at CHS’s Healthy Sundays.  These are community outreach events sponsored by CHS to promote health and wellness through educational information and health screenings for the medically underserved.  Stith resides in Selden.

“Ms. Stith embodies the leadership skills that we wish to cultivate throughout the CHS system,” said Catholic Home Care’s Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Mary Ellen Polit.  “Ms. Stith has demonstrated that she not only innovates but also motivates others and inspires exceptional performance.”

Nancy Stith was a finalist for the CHS 2011 Patrick J. Scollard Award for Leadership.
