Rockville Centre, NY Ė Catholic Health Services (CHS) has named Dennis Verzi, chief operating officer, effective July 1. Verzi will serve as the systemís first COO and report directly to the new CHS President and CEO Alan D. Guerci, MD.
ďIn collaboration with the entityís EVPs and chief administrative officers, Dennis will be responsible for the oversight of our six hospitals. He will also address quality, strategic medical staff relations and overall operations at each,Ē said Dr. Guerci. ďHe embodies Catholic Health Servicesís faith-based mission and enjoys the respect of everyone who knows him.Ē
After holding similar positions with the Archdiocese of New York, in 2002, Verzi was named president for Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center in West Islip. He soon rose through the ranks to executive vice president (EVP) and CEO for the systemís Continuing Care Division. Prior to his COO appointment, he was EVP and chief administrative officer for St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown and interim EVP and president and CEO for Good Samaritan, St. Catherine and St. Charles hospitals.
Verzi helped establish Catholic Health Servicesís Continuing Care Division, which has since achieved stellar recognition for its nursing homes, hospice and home care services. Under his leadership, St. Catherine was named a Bariatric Center of Excellence and achieved the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Gold Plus award for excellence in quality for stroke and TIA management. It was also the first CHS hospital to implement an electronic medical system and recently was awarded an A rating from the Leapfrog Group.
After earning a bachelor of science from Manhattan College, Verzi completed his graduate studies in physical therapy at New York University followed by a masterís in health care from Long Island University. He holds national certification and licensure in New York state in health care administration and is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators.
