Rockville Centre, NY – Catholic Health Services (CHS) has appointed Sherry J. Friedman its chief development officer. In the newly created role for the system, Friedman will work closely with the Chief Administrative Officers and development executives of CHS’s six hospitals to further develop and enhance fundraising efforts. She will report to CHS’s President and Chief Executive Officer Alan D. Guerci, MD.
“The extensive, not-for-profit experience Sherry brings to her new role as chief development officer will be a great benefit to our system,” said Dr. Guerci.
Friedman joined CHS in 2004 as Vice President for Development and Public Affairs at St. Francis Hospital. During that time she executed the largest capital campaign in the history of St. Francis with more than $70 million raised. To date, she has raised more than $100 million in total for the St. Francis Hospital Foundation. She will take on her newly expanded role October 1 while maintaining her position at St. Francis Hospital where she will be based. Prior to coming to CHS, she held a variety of key fundraising positions at Cornell University, Weill Medical College, Yeshiva University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and Molloy College. She was also Assistant Dean for Hofstra University School of Law and Director of Graduate Admissions for Pace University, Lubin School of Business.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Pace University and her master’s degree in industrial relations from Pace University, Lubin School of Business. Friedman is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Counsel for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and Women in Development President’s Council. She was selected by AFP to receive the Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award for 2011. Friedman lives in Hewlett with her husband, Stewart.
