"In earthly life...one of the most beautiful forms of affection is friendship." PGF
Friends were a big part of Pier Giorgio Frassati's life - he had many and he enjoyed spending time with them. As a student he rallied others to good works and Christian causes. He urged them on to holiness in their lives, and did so in part by the example of his own life. His joy was contagious and he had a ready answer for anyone who was touched by it: "You ask me whether I am in good spirits. How could I not be so? As long as Faith gives me strength I will always be joyful!"
Pier Giorgio understood that his friends, those God had put in his path, were a gift from God, and so he always pointed them back to Him if they came for advice or consolation. If our friends come to us, what do they hear? Do we give them the wisdom of the world, which might be to put themselves first, or seek revenge, or remain angry with someone? Or do we offer the wisdom which comes from God: to forgive, to put others first, to seek peace?
Friendship is a holy thing - we are meant to encourage one another in this life, to look for the good, to offer hope. Today, thank God for your friends and ask Him to bless them; then, be the Light of Christ in their lives, as Pier Giorgio was.
Bl. Pier Giorgio, pray for us!
