Getting back to our celestial coffee break...
St. Anthony, you were known as a gifted preacher, who could even make the fish sit up and take notice! What can you tell us about gifts?
"Once again I turn to Scripture, which tells us: 'Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights...' (James 1:17). God gives each of us gifts, and they differ from person to person. If all of us were wonderful preachers, who would listen? And, by the way, a gift can never be too small or insignifiacant. St. Paul made this very clear when he gave his famous teaching on the parts of the Body of Christ: 'On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor.' (1 Corinthians 12:22-23). Just think about it, even the smallest gift is all the more necessary! That's how it is with God - He shakes up our way of thinking, turns it around and upside down. His ways are not our ways.
Now the big question to ask ourselves is: how do we use our gifts? Many gifted people waste their talents chasing after the things of this world. Use your talents to bless the world, to bring about God's kingdom each and every day. Whether you are sculpting a masterpiece or cleaning a sink, do it for God and His glory..."
St. Anthony, pray for us!
