"Of a hundred souls, we are interested in a hundred." (St. Josemaria Escrivá)
One of the most incredible traits of Fr. Escrivá was his interest in each individual person. Like the Good Shepherd of the Gospels, he didn't want to lose a single soul for Christ. He understood that every human being, created in their Maker's image, had infinite value in the Kingdom of Heaven. Each person had their place, their gifts, and their work to do. He saw the need for everyone to achieve holiness and sainthood.
His vision was extraordinary and magnificent in its scope. Imagine every soul on fire for God! Imagine the world we would live in if each one of us really lived our vocation to the fullest, if we took our faith seriously and found the sacred in each moment of our day.
John Henry Cardinal Newman had a similar philosophy, which was apparent in this quote: "God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission...Somehow I am necessary for His purpose." Both of these saintly men believed with all their hearts in the value of every single soul in bringing about God's Kingdom. God is very interested in YOU, no matter your age, race, education or position in life: you are an important part of His plan. Seek Him with all your heart and find your place in His.
St. Josemaria Escrivá, pray for us!
