As we come to the close of our month with St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, it is important to understand the simple reason for her teaching on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, that God wants to show His all-encompassing love for us with the revelation of His heart. What He asks of us, in turn, is that we reveal a loving heart to others.
When the relic of St. Margaret Mary was being hosted in our diocese, I received a call from a Sister Maria de Montfort from Pennsylvania. She told me that St. Margaret Mary was her congregation's patron saint, and that she was saddened that they were unable to come and venerate the relic because of prior community obligations. I told her the only thing that I could think of to do for her - that I would lay my hand on the relic and say a prayer for her and her community.
So when I knelt in prayer by the relic of St. Margaret Mary I did just that - I reached out in faith and asked God to bless Sister Maria and asked the Saint's loving intercession on her community. A small gesture, insignificant some would say, but I believe with all my being that God honors those prayers: prayers which we make for others to bless them, to bring them hope, joy and love. It is such an amazing and wonderful aspect of our Christian faith, more than we, with our limited understanding, can even grasp: that each time we pray to bless another, even those we do not know, we cause heaven to rejoice, because we are showing one another the love which God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit share between Themselves.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the graces you give us which we sometimes do not even see! Help us to continue to walk by faith and not by sight. Thank you also for the vision given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque of Your Sacred Heart of Love.
St. Margaret Mary, please continue to pray for us!
