"How great should each one's love for the Church be!  As a good child prays for the mother it loves, so also should every Christian soul pray for the Church, its mother." (Diary Notebook 2)

St. Maria Faustina loved and prayed for the Church.  As the Ten Commandments tell us to honor our earthly parents, so we are also called to honor our mother, the Church.  Jesus prayed one of His most powerful and beautiful prayers when He prayed for the Church, present and future, at the Last Supper:  "...they have believed that you sent me.  I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours...Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one...I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one...Father I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world." (John 17:8-9;11;20-21;24)

Think of it!  Christ praying for us and all believers, that we may be protected in God's name and see Him in His glory.  He also asks that we may be one as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one.  In effect He is asking that we live in a community of love, as the Trinity does.  And how do we sustain one another in that community?  Through prayer!

So yes, St. Maria Faustina was correct:  we should all be praying for our Church, because in doing so we strengthen and encourage one another.  Heavenly Father, we pray this day for our dear Mother, Your Church.  May we always love and defend her, and may our actions build her up by bringing Your love to the world.  Amen!

St. Maria Faustina, pray for us!
