St. Padre Pio and Becoming Print E-mail
Monday, 13 December 2010 00:00

All of us are in the process of "becoming" - of living the present moment to its fullest, and taking advantage of the "now" to grow according to the will of God.  Each moment is unrepeatable, and what we do with our moments ultimately determines what we will become.

Padre Pio knew this, and often spoke to people of using their time wisely:  "Oh, how precious time is!  Blessed are those who know how to make good use of it.  Oh, if only all could understand how precious time is, undoubtedly everyone would do his best to spend it in a praiseworthy manner."

So what do we wish to become?  If we want to follow Christ, we must listen to the Holy Spirit each day, each moment, as Pope Benedict XVI reminded us:  "Our vocation and our Christian duty consist in cooperating so that they reach effective fulfillment in the daily reality of our life, what the Holy Spirit accomplishes in us with Baptism.  In fact, we are called to become new women and men, to be able to be true witnesses of the Risen One and thus bearers of Christian joy and hope in the world..." (Papal Homily 10/19/06)

True witnesses and bearers of Christian joy and hope!  As we read the words of our Pope and Padre Pio, let us use this moment wisely by praying for a true awareness of the importance of each moment in our "becoming".

St. Padre Pio, pray for us!
